Situated in southern France, Languedoc comprises of the popular departements of
Aude, Gard, Herault, Lozere, and the Pyrenees Orientales. The region covers an
area of approximately 27,376 sq km and hosts a population of 2.3m according to
the latest census in 1999
Formed as part of the regionalization laws of the 1980's Languedoc now replaces
what was historic Lower Languedoc. The regions administrative centre Montpellier
is in itself an important and interesting area to visit.
